HORTON CONCRETE FINISH SEASON WITH TOURNAMENT
The TCDMHA Horton Concrete Novice Rep travelled to Mount Forest today and wrapped up their season with a tournament.
We had an early 8 am start against the host team the Mount Forest Rams. The Rebels had a rough start to the game and were down 5-0 into the third period. However, they never gave up and continued to press on and their efforts were rewarded as Austin Cook and Nathaniel Gibbons both had unassisted goals midway through the 3rd Period. The Rams responded with one more goal with 35 seconds left of the game to win with a final score of 6-2.
Next, the Rebels faced off against the Zurich Thunder. The Rebels came out strong as Austin
Cook found the net early on in the 1st period with an assist from Neil Gilchrist. Then, Austin Cook scored a second goal (unassisted) for the Rebels to lead the game 2-0. The Thunder responded with 2 goals to tie it up in the 2nd period but Austin Cook earned himself a hat trick by scoring a third goal with 43 seconds left of the 2nd period. The battle continued on throughout the 3rd period and the Rebels held on to win the game 3-2 and earned a spot in the Consolation B Final.
The Rebels met the West Lincoln Wrath in the Consolation B Final for their last game of the season. The Rebels took an early lead as Alex Baker scored the first goal of the game assisted by Austin Cook and Neil Gilchrist. The Rebels held onto their lead thanks to several beauty saves from goalie Javier Koeslag until the end of the 2nd period when the Wrath managed to tie it up. The Wrath continued on with their momentum as exhaustion settled in on the Rebels. The Wrath scored 3 more goals and won the Consolation title 4-1.
All in all, the Rebels had a great day. This tournament was the best way to end a fun season.
