The Township of Chatsworth “Edward McNabb Roofing” Bantam LL Rebels travelled to Ripley to face off against the Ripley Wolves Elite in game 2 of the WOAA playoffs. The Rebels were looking for a win as they had been unable to defeat the Wolves in previous regular season or tournament play.
The Rebels worked hard and it was a very fast-paced, hard hitting game. Penalties to both team captains in the first 30 seconds of play set the tone for the game. The first period was a sea saw battle with excellent chances and amazing saves at both ends. The score stood even at 0 until well into the second period when the Rebels Evan Longland zigzagged his way up the ice from defense and put one by the Ripley goalie (assisted by Spencer Hanna and Kelly McCarthy). The Rebels held the one goal lead into the third, and then added a second by Will Kavanagh (assist to Kyle Fry) but the short bench due to vacation and injury combined with the Rebels inability to stay out of the penalty box wore on the Rebels. A couple of power play goals by Ripley evened the score and then two more unanswered goals gave the wolves a 4-2 lead in the final minutes of the 3rd. Still fighting hard, the Rebels weren't done as Dawson McNabb scored an unassisted goal with 3 minutes left in the game. The Rebels threw everything they had at the Ripley net minder, but nothing seemed to make it through. Rebounders were quickly flattened by the big Ripley defense and the players took a beating. Rebels goalie Ethan Fennell stood strong for the Rebels making many big saves despite being taken down by the opponents on a number of occasions during the game. In the end, the Rebels weren’t able to find the mesh another time with the final score 4-3 in favour of the Wolves.
This team takes the ice again in Chatsworth on Tuesday, February 12 7:30 pm vs. the Kincardine Kinucks LL#2.
