The Township of Chatsworth “Edward McNabb Roofing” Bantam LL Rebels travelled to Mildmay to face off against the Monachs in round robin play off action.
It was a lackluster game for the Rebels who took a few bad penalties (and deserved a few others they got away with). During the first period, the Rebels had some good chances, but the Monarchs drew first blood at the midway point to take the lead. The Rebels battled back and evened the score, with just over a minute left in the first, on a goal by Will Kavanagh with assists to Kyle Fry and Evan Longland. Unfortunately, the Rebels seemed to let up before the end of each period with the Monarchs pulling ahead with 5 seconds left in the first and scoring again with 14 seconds left in the second. The Rebels penalty kill was solid and even took care of a 5-3, but at even strength, the Rebels couldn’t get organized in their own end and Rebel goalie Ethan Fennell was left to pick up the slack from the lack of communication and coverage in front of his net. Fennell did an amazing job between the pipes and held the Rebels within striking distance. Longland opened the third with an end to end play burying the puck behind the Monarch goalie to bring the Rebels within one. Unfortunately, the Monarchs replied with another goal of their own midway into the period and the game ended 4-2 in their favour.
This team takes the ice again in Chatsworth on Saturday, February 23 @ 12:30 pm vs. the Ripley Wolves.
