First loss in 2019
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels took to the ice on Sunday after an extended break due to weather created cancellations. Unfortunately, the Rebels discovered that you can't win the game while watching from the penalty box.
The Goderich Sailors arrived in Markdale for the first game of a round robin series involving Saugeen Shores, Goderich, Wingham and TCD for WOAA playoffs. The first period saw good, hard, end to end play with scoring opportunities at both ends of the ice. Rebel goalie, Lawson Cumming, made some excellent saves to hold the teams to a scoreless tie through the first period.
Unfortunately, as the second period progressed, Rebels seemed to veer off track as they began to take senseless penalties and allowed the Sailors to take a 1 goal lead in the latter half of the second and carry it into the third.
Goderich scored 2 more unanswered goals in the third period as, despite the fact that the Sailors were down 7 players in their regular lineup, the Rebels begin to look worn down by the constant penalty kills. The Rebels never gave up until the final buzzer, but they just didn't seem to be able to regroup.
Hopefully, now that school is back in session and routine have been restored, the Rebels will be back playing to their ability when they face off against the Wingham Ironmen (yes again) Thursday night at 8:30 pm in Wingham.
Go Rebels Go!!!
