Rebels Drop Another
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels traveled to Goderich to face off against the Sailors in WOAA playoff action. Things definitely did not go as planned right from the opening face off.
The Rebels couldn`t seem to pull it together from the very first shift. Sailor breakaways abounded in the first period and it didn`t take Goderich long to capitalize on one of the breakaways to take the lead in the game. The Sailors added a powerplay goal as the Rebels couldn`t stay out of the penalty box. The Rebels fought to contain the Sailors, but repeated penalties with an already shortened bench due to injury, illness and suspension didn`t help their cause.
Rebels battled back when Jordon Beirnes fired a shot from the point and Hunter Schultz banged in the rebound to bring the Rebels back within one. Unfortunately the momentum was short-lived and the parade of breakaways, 2 on none and 2 on 1`s, by the Sailors, continued. Sailors scored again less than a minute later to return their lead to 2.
Sailors ended the period with another breakaway goal to give the Sailors a 4-1 lead after 1. Period 2 saw the Rebels come out hard and end up in the penalty box 30 seconds in... Rebels managed to score on a strong penalty kill as Beirnes shot the puck up to Schultz who send it in. The Sailor goalie misread the play and found himself out of position as Austin McComb took advantage from the side of the net and sent the puck deep into the empty cage.
Sailors shut down the Rebels come back with a goal of their own a minute later.
Period 3 saw the penalty box overflowing but no goals and the game ended 5 - 2 in favour of the Sailors.
Rebels take to the ice Tuesday night at 7:30 pm at Markdale.
