Rebels Pillaged by Crusaders
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels faced off against the Blythe-Brussels Crusaders in Blythe, but the long drive on a school night seemed to weigh on the Rebels and it showed in their performance.
The game started out slow. It was a little scrambly and very little happened in the first. By the second, some frustration at the lack of scoring started to seep in. At that point, the referees stepped in and took control of the game and the score sheet rapidly filled with penalties.
The Crusaders scored with about three and a half minutes left in the second but the Rebels came back and evened the score when Brandon Stewart put one by the Crusader goalie who was completely screened out of the play. However, the Crusaders took the lead again before the end of the period when they put one into the Rebel goal.
After playing much of the second short-handed, the Rebels settled down a little in the third and took fewer bad penalties. Calvin Stewart evened the score at 2 all, in the first shift of the third, but it didn't seem to inspire the team to pull together and play smart hockey. Bad positioning, bad passes, no passes - the third wasn't pretty and the Crusaders took advantage. They were all over the Rebels net and piles of bodies and sticks and skates were in the crease several times. Finally, the Crusaders stormed the Rebels end and scored two quick goals giving them a 4-2 lead with 10 minutes left in the game. The Rebels made a few attempts but there didn't seem to be a cohesive effort. Blythe-Brussels managed one more goal and the game finally ended 5 -2 in favour of the Crusaders.
Rebels travel to Shallow Lake on Thursday to face the Lakers for the first time this season. Go Rebels Go!!!
