The Desboro Tire Novice ‘C’ girl’s scored a
come from behind 2-1 victory in Southampton versus Saugeen Shores on Sunday.
The Rebels got off to a slow start with Saugeen Shores scoring the first goal of the game just over two minutes into the first period to take a 1-0 lead. From this point on though, the Rebels controlled the play and finished the period with several good scoring opportunities.
It was more of the same in the second period, with the Rebels again dominating the scoring chances. The Saugeen Shores goalie held her ground stopping Kailey Greig on two breakaways in the same shift while Hennessy Koeslag fired a shot off the crossbar but the second period ended with Saugeen Shores holding on to their 1-0 lead.
Kailey got her revenge 32 seconds into the third period tying the game 1-1 with an assist from Addison Teeter. The game remained tied with both teams having chances to take the lead – and possibly the win – during the third period. The tie was finally broken by Bree Wilkins who scored on a rebound from a shot by Kailey with 53.6 seconds left in the game to put the Rebels out front 2-1.
Overall it was a great game for all the Rebels with Hennessy winning the Hard Hat MVP award for her great work on defense and in the offensive zone.
