Desboro Lion's Club Atom Rep PROVINCIAL CHAMPIONS!!!
The TCDMHA Atom C Girls Brought Home the Gold Medal From OWHA Provincials!

It was a dream come true and the culmination of months of hard work when the Atom Rebels defeated local rivals, Mt. Forest 1-0 to earn the postition as the Best Atom C Team in Ontario! The coaches, parents, families and friends couldn't have been prouder of their accomplishments. They all met on Sunday afternoon in Keady with their Peewee and Bantam teammates to celebrate a historical weekend for girls hockey in Chatsworth.

On their road to Provincial Gold they played Mitchell, Sudbury and Windsor in round robin play.

Game 1
Mitchell was their only loss of the weekend, 1-0 on Friday at 8:15 am. Mitchell scored in the first 15 seconds.  The Rebels shook off their nervousness of being on a big ice in a big city and did not allow any more goals.  Unfortunately, they were not able to put one past the Mitchell goalie.  Mitchell would go on to win the bronze medal.

Atoms pray to the hockey Gods, lead by Kloey's older sister Gabby Jex, who was also in Provincials playing for Walkerton A Midgets. Our families were VERY busy as five of the Rebel Atoms had older sister's playing in Provincials as well; Summer Roney's sister Emily was there with the Owen Sound Ice Hawks Bantam A team, Brooke Farrow's  sister Renee, was there on the Chatsworth Bantam C (fourth in Province!), Abby Watson's sister Emma was there playing with the Chatsworth Peewee C (Gold Medalists) and Cecily Mallette had her sister's Abby Vokes on Chatsworth Peewee C, Madison Vokes on Chatsworth Bantam C and Rachel Mallette on Owen Sound Ice Hawks Bantam A. (yes all four!)

Game 2

Later Friday they played the Sudbury Lady Wolves and beat them 3-0. Grace Vokes got the shut out. Goals were scored by Kloey Jex, Claire Vokes and Summer Roney. Assists went to Emma MacDonnell, Kloey Jex, Cecily Mallette, Natalie Madill and Tara Meikle.

Game 3
Saturday morning saw another 8:15 game against Windsor. For their second early morning game they decided they needed to start a new tradition of a team dip in the pool at 6 am followed by a quick run outside into the cold!

The Rebels dominated, taking that game 4-0. Emma MacDonnell and Summer Roney were on fire scoring two goals each. Assists went to Claire Vokes, Tara Meikle (2) Kloey Jex and Cecily Mallette.

Game 4
Despite their one loss they made it through but had to play an elimination game on Saturday at 1:30 against local rivals, Walkerton. It was a tough game, going scoreless until late in the third period when Emma MacDonnell scored again to make it 1-0 for Chatsworth. The assists went to Kloey Jex and Cecily Mallette.  Grace Vokes got her third shut out of the weekend.

Game 5
Then it was on to the quarter-finals against Nepean Saturday night at 5:30. Chatsworth defeated them 3-0 to go on to the semi-finals on Sunday. They were one of the top four teams in Ontario! In the Nepean game goals were scored by Kloey Jex (2 unassisted!) and Tara Meikle, assisted by Summer Roney.

Team breakfast to get ready for their big championship Sunday!!  Good thing as they didn't know they would be playing an hour and 45 minutes of hockey in their first game!!

Game 6 (and 7!!!)
Sunday morning the Chatsworth girls faced Russel Castor in their third 8:15 game of the weekend. This game was one for the Atom girls record books as it went in to four overtimes! Yes, seven periods!! Tara Meikle had scored the first goal and then Russel tied it up. The fans were going wild and a huge crowd was gathering to watch the hard working 9-11 year olds.  The play went end to end and Grace Vokes made several hair raising saves! It would be at the 73rd minute of the game that Tara would score again to give us the 2-1 win! The crowd went wild! The girls were riding high even though they were exhausted from being on the ice from 8:15 to 10:00 am!

Game 7

We were heading to the finals at 1pm against our long time rivals and fellow WOAA team, Mt. Forest. Despite a hard fought battle Chatsworth came out ahead defeating them 1-0! Emma MacDonnell got the goal, assisted by Clair Vokes and Kloey Jex.  Grace Vokes got the shut out, her fifth of the weekend, having only given up two goals over the entire tournament!

CONGRATULATIONS REBELS ON BECOMING THE TOP ATOM C TEAM IN THE PROVINCE!!

The Atoms also want to congratulate the other Chatsworth girl's teams on a terrific season.  It was a huge accomplishment that all four Rep teams qualified for Provincials.  The fact that the Peewees, Atoms and Bantams were all in the Semi-finals and Finals on Sunday is an indication of TCDMHA's heart and hard working coaches, bench staff, volunteers, fans and families.  We are very lucky to have such a committed and caring community.

To celebrate the teams invited everyone back to the Keady Community Centre for a party and parade! THANKS FOR ALL THE SUPPORT THROUGHOUT OUR ENTIRE SEASON!!!
