SILVER in WOAA Championship
The Chatsworth "Desboro Lion's Club" Atoms lost a heartbreaker in the Maroon Championship game of their WOAA FINAL on Sunday afternoon in Belmore. Despite being undefeated, in the regular season they lost 2-1 to Mount Forest in a close, fast paced game. The girls should hold their heads high as they earned the SILVER Medal and finished first in the standings in League play, having beaten Mount Forest twice previously. Their WOAA season ends at 16 wins, 1 loss and 2 ties.

They played Bruce Peninsula Saturday at 12:00 and defeated them 5-0. Kloey Jex scored first from a hard shot by Brooke Farrow from the point. Then Natalie Madill scored on a pass from Summer Roney. For the last goal of the first period Tara Meikle took the puck end to end and hit the top corner, unassisted. Kloey Jex started the scoring off again in the second and the third to give her a hat trick! Her goals were assisted by Emma MacDonnell and then Claire Vokes and Brooke FarrowGrace Vokes got the shut out.

This placed us on the A side and we would move on to face Walkerton, who finished third in the regular season. Despite a lot of pressure Grace earned her second shut out of the day with a 4-0 final. Emma MacDonnell fired the puck into the top corner assisted by Claire Vokes and Kloey Jex. Then Emma got her second of the game, again assisted by Kloey and Claire. The second period remained scoreless but Summer Roney scored in the third assisted by Emma MacDonnell. The final goal of the game was scored by Tara Meikle assisted by Summer RoneyGrace Vokes got her second shut out of the day!

With the second win of the tournament behind them the girls would go to the final on Sunday at 1:00 pm against Mount Forest.  The girls were ready, focused and worked hard but faced an agressive Mount Forest team. They dug away at the net and jammed in an early goal on Grace.  The Rebels kept up the pace and Tara Meikle tied it up, assisted Summer Roney. Unfortunately, early in the second, Mount Forest scored their second goal on an unusual bounce from behind the net.  The Rebels out played Mount Forest and out shot them 17-11 for the rest of the game but just couldn't score on Mount Forest's strong goalie, Brianna Gordon.  The Rebels pulled their goalie for the last minute to try to tie it up again but as the clock ran down the girls ended up the Silver Medalists.

They were good sports and after discussing their future strategies they all came out to cheer on the Atom HL team in the White Championship Final.
