If hockey was a beauty pageant…
The TCDMHA Power Workers’ Union Midget LL Rebels have had prettier
wins, but in their characteristic never-say-die bulldog style, they dug out a W
to sit comfortably on top of the Northern Division standings, extending their
unbeaten streak to nine games in Port Elgin on Sunday night.
Heading down the home stretch into the playoffs, the Rebels took a period to get in gear, but so did their opponents, the Saugeen Shores Storm 2. The Storm opened the scoring in the second, but Carson Torrie had something to say about that, teeing up the first Rebels goal assisted by Chris Hardman. History repeated itself in the third, with Saugeen going up by one only to have the Rebels shut down that lead a minute later on a tap-in by Talmon Ash, assisted by Carson Torrie and Jake Hartman. With five minutes left on the clock, Carson Torrie drove home the go-ahead goal assisted by Chris Hardman, and the Rebels held on for the 3-2 win.
The Rebels are down to two regular season games – the next one a grudge rematch against their division rivals, the AEMHA Ice Dogs. The Rebels are aiming to prove that they deserve the Top Dog spot in these here parts, and they are determined to settle that score on the ice this coming Friday in Chesley. Go, Rebels! Show those Ice Dogs your bite is just as fearsome as your bark!
