Midget Rep Lose a Close One
The Township of Chatsworth and District "Moggie Valley Timber Inc." Midget Rep Rebels travelled through the snow to the Perth East Recreational Complex Friday night to face Milverton. Perhaps a long week of deer hunting had a negative affect as the Rebels just ran out of time in their push to tie the match which ended 4 -3 in favor of the home team.
Rebel goalie Lawson Cumming made several saves as the game started with a lot of open ice play and long passes in both directions but Milverton seemed to have better control on the break in which resulted in several excellent scoring chances including the one which made it over the line behind the Rebel goalie to have Milverton take the lead 1 0. Less than 2 minutes later the Rebels, evened the score when Mitch Stevens threw the puck up the ice and Wyatt Golem picked it up and blew by the Milverton defence to go in on a break and beat the goalie five hole. Unfortunately Milverton slipped another one into the Rebel net and led 2-1 after 1. Milverton scored again just past the mid point of the 2nd and it was 3 1 after two.
The Rebels came out pushing hard in the 3rd and there were some great saves at both ends. Finally, the Rebels made some key passes of their own as Brandon Stewart, Hunter Schultz and Golem made passing plays around, behind and in front of the Milverton goal which ended with bang, bang passing and Schultz getting the shot past the Milverton netminder through the scramble in front.
Milverton wasn't done though and despite the extra pressure put on by the Rebels, they were able to go on another long break and pull ahead 4 2 with only 3 minutes left. Rebels were on an all out assault to make up the ground and even the game. They pulled the goalie and pushed hard. With less than a minute left to play, Trenton Chegahno scored on a beauty shot to pull the Rebels to within one (assist to Stevens). The Rebels continued to apply pressure in the Milverton end, but the buzzer blew before they were able to pull out the goal needed for the tie.
The Rebels travel to Lucknow on Monday to face off against the Lucknow Sepoys. Let's go Rebels!
