The LADIES are on a ROLL ... 2 BIG GAMES = 2 BIG WINS
The 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C REBELS just played 2 of their best games of the season.
The girls travelled to Clifford on Thursday night to take on the league leading, Mount Forest Rams 'C' team
.
It was an even battle that could have gone either way, but all 15 REBELS skaters and our under the weather goal tender, brought everything they had to the ice ... and it paid off!
Tristin Brown got control of the puck at centre ice, weaved her way through the Blades' skaters and fired a rocket 5-hole to get us on the board at 8:42 in the 1st period.
After a quick 10 minute 2nd period went by scoreless, with
Ashlynn Stephenson making some incredible saves,
Tristin broke away from the pack again and netted her 2nd, just over the goalie's stick at 9:48 in the 3rd period.
As the clock was running down, the Rams pulled their goalie for the final minute and the pressure was on. Ashlynn and her "tough as nails" defensive team kept it clear of our net, but
Jade Gilchrist managed to get her stick on the puck and let it go into the open net at the other end of the ice with 8.3 seconds left on the board.
It was an exciting finish and a true team effort!
Final Score: REBELS 3 - RAMS 0
On Friday night, the girls played host to the strong South Bruce Blades 'C' team
, in a critical OWHA Playdown Game.
Three matches have ended in a draw between these teams this season, and we would have been happy with the same result last night ... but it wasn't looking good after the visitors got on the board first on a breakaway at 13:59 in the 3rd.
The final frame played on, with both teams being shut down at either end. After a timeout and a strategic (some might say crazy) move by the home team at 2:49 ... Ashlynn stayed at the bench ... and an extra skater was sent to the faceoff in the offensive zone.
Tristin won the faceoff,
Jamie Gilchrist fought for the puck at the boards, and
Morgan Moran picked it up and fired a long shot high into the net at 2:37. THE GAME WAS TIED ... but it wasn't over yet!!!
After the celebration on the ice had cleared and the crowd had settled down, the final 2 minutes of play seemed to take forever. The Rebels kept the momentum going and the pressure on the Blades ... and in a scramble at the net with 38 seconds left on the clock,
Reese Wilkins poked the puck over the goal line for the WINNING GOAL of the game!!!
Final Score: REBELS 2 - BLADES 1
The REBELS would like to congratulate teammates
Janna Wardell and
Reese Wilkins who have qualified and are heading to Timmins tomorrow for the OFSAA Nordic Skiing competition. Good Luck Ladies!
The REBELS will host the Mount Forest Rams C team next Friday March 3rd at 7:30pm for their final league match-up this season ... and then finish off their PLAYDOWN GAMES in a rematch with the Blades in Mildmay on March 5th, and the final 2 games with the Walkerton Capitals on March 6th in Walkerton and back home on Wednesday March 8th at 7pm.
