It was a big night for the 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C REBELS as they sealed the deal with a WIN over the Walkerton Capitals in their final OWHA Playdown game.
Their loyal fans were in attendance to cheer them on, as their long season of hard work and determination had paid off.
For some of our girls it will be their first time experiencing the Ontario Provincial Championships, and for the veterans on our team this will be the 3rd consecutive year that they have qualified to go.
Before there was any celebrating though, there was a game to win!
Walkerton's goalie Keely Clarke was put to the test tonight facing approximately 50 shots from our determined REBELS. They had a job to do, and they kept the pressure on the visitors the entire game.
Midway through the 1st period,
Reese Wilkins got the home team on the board, assisted by defenseman
Morgan Moran at 4:56.
The remainder of the 1st and the full 2nd period remained scoreless, thanks to some nice moves by
Ashlynn Stephenson in our net. The only penalty kill for the REBELS came in the 2nd and Maggie Hoy handled it beautifully, keeping the puck in the offensive end with some nice moves of her own. The girls went into the intermission with just a 1 goal lead ... and their anxious fans took some deep breaths to get through the flood.
There must have been some inspiring words in the room, because the REBELS came out for the 3rd with new life and managed to rack up 5 goals.
Reese struck again less than 2 minutes in, with a hard low shot that finally penetrated the force field around the Capitals net.
Jade Gilchrist netted a beauty at 10:32, and
Brooklyn Mole set
Reese up to complete her hat-trick at 9:13.
Tristin Brown went coast to coast and then put a perfect pass out front to
Brooklyn, who buried a one-timer at 7:58.
Aubrey Urbshott (fresh off her Monday hat-trick) sent the puck high into the net at 2:08 to finish off the scoring for the REBELS.
Ashlynn records her 13th SHUT-OUT of the season (3rd in Playdowns).
Final Score: REBELS 6 - CAPITALS 0
NOW THE CELEBRATING COULD BEGIN!!!
We need to thank our amazing coaching staff for developing the talent that these girls have displayed this season. With only one team in the Bantam girls level this year, there was the challenge of many different skill levels coming together to form what turned out to be an excellent team.
Our girls will compete at their WOAA Year End Tournament in Durham April 1 & 2, before heading to Toronto with the other top 15 Bantam C teams for the 2017 Ontario Provincial Championships on April 7 - 9.
Enjoy your March Break and ...
