SILVER STICK CUT SHORT ...
We could almost rename this year's SAUGEEN SHORES SILVER STICK ... the SILVER SICK.
With the flu quickly spreading through the team for over a week, the 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C girls found themselves at the tournament with a shortened bench, and a decreased energy level in some of the girls that did make it out.
Don't get me wrong ... they still competed well ... just not up to their level.

The Rebels finished the Round Robin with a 0.692 GF % which was the 3rd highest out of 8 teams, but they ended up placing 3rd in their pool and sadly didn't qualify to move on to the semis.

Game 1 - Friday 11am vs Mount Forest Rams    1- 0 loss
The girls played an excellent defensive game, but despite their many shots on / at the net, they just couldn't get one past the Rams goal tender.  The Rams scored on a breakaway early in the 2nd period, and that ended up being the winning goal.

Game 2 - Saturday 8am vs Walkerton Capitals   8 - 1 WIN
The early morning gave a slow start to this game, with the 1st period going back and forth but remaining scoreless.
The 2nd & 3rd went much better for the Rebels with 4 goals being scored each period.
In a pile up at the net early in the 2nd, Brooklyn Mole tapped the loose puck over the goal line at 9:06, assists to Jade Gilchrist and Reese Wilkins.
Kristen Hamelin got the puck back to Emily Meuser at the very next faceoff and Emily moved in and fired it in from the point at 8:59.
Aubrey Urbshott flipped the puck up and over the goalie, with an assist from Tristin Brown and Grace Scott at 5:51, and Aubrey bounced another one over the goalie's stick, assisted by Tristin at 4:01.

Jade started off the 3rd with a hard shot from the slot, assisted by Reese at 11:44.
Tristin "Dangled - Sniped - but left out the Celly" (very sportsmanlike) at 9:28, and Emily fired her 2nd goal of the game in from the point at 8:03, assisted by Taylor Legge and Kristen.
It would have been nice to have a video replay of the final goal of the game ... Jamie Gilcrhist sent the puck over to Reese beside the net who let a shot go from the goal line that somehow, on just the right angle, made it through the goalie's pads and into the back of the net at 4:58.
Ashlynn made a number of amazing saves throughout the game, with just 1 sneaking in at 3:33 in the 1st.

Game 3 - Saturday 12:30pm vs Lambeth Lancers    2 - 1 loss
This nail biter started off with a scoreless 1st period, and was followed with the Lancers catching the girls off guard twice in the 2nd period.  The Rebels battled hard for the full 35 minutes with this evenly matched team (with the same coloured uniforms) and Reese finally managed to get us on the board with 1:17 remaining on the clock, assisted by Tristin.  The girls kept the pressure on in the final minute, but the tying goal never found it's way into the net.
All it would of taken was a tie to move on to the semis, but it just wasn't meant to be.
Hardest Working Player of the Game and Game MVP: Lindsay Elliot and Emily Meuser

A big THANK YOU to the Meusers for hosting the team at their home on Saturday ... and Congratulation to Tristin and Emily who took part in the Skills Competition at the Plex and earned "hardest shot" and "fastest skater".

The one positive thing about the situation was that the girls could stay home on Sunday and rest!
They get 12 days to recover and get a few practices in before their OWHA Provincial Playdowns begin.

GOOD LUCK REBELS!
