After 35 long days without a game (due to cancellations and holidays), the 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C Rebels finally hit the ice in Chatsworth on Friday night with the Rams ... before heading to Teeswater on Sunday to take on the undefeated Blades.
Friday January 13 vs Mount Forest HL
Wasting no time at all,
Tristin Brown carried the puck toward Mount Forest's net, got tripped but sent it across to
Jamie Gilchrist on the way down. Jamie took a shot on net, and Tristin moved in for the rebound ... all just 43 seconds after the puck dropped. The rest of the period seemed a bit scattered with the girls trying to get back into their groove after such a long absence.
Early in the 2nd period,
Reese Wilkins picked up the loose puck at centre ice, skated down the boards and cut in with a hard shot to the back of the net at 13:53.
The Rams physical style of play resulted in time spent in the box.
Jamie took advantage of the power-play and buried the rebound on
Emily Meuser's shot from the point at 9:02.
The Rebels' final goal of the game came from
Aubrey Urbshott, with the assistance of
Tristin and
Grace Scott at 6:42.
The 3rd period was more of the same pushing and shoving, and both Ashlynn Stephenson and Rams' goalie Sandra Nanninga kept their nets clear for the remainder of the game.
Ashlynn earned her 5th SHUT-OUT of the season.
Sunday January 15 vs South Bruce C
Ashlynn was definitely challenged in this match-up with the Blades. She saw the puck well and kept the opposition out of her net for 2 full periods.
The Rebels took the lead at 4:15 in the 1st, with
Aubrey firing in a one-timer from
Tristin.
The play was fast paced, back and forth and refreshingly clean (penalty free) the whole game.
Finally at 12:33 in the 3rd,
Morgan "Birthday Girl" Moran kept the puck in at the blue line and
Reese swooped in, took the shot and the puck slid just inside the post to go up 2-0. The
undefeated Blades were not about to back down and 4 minutes later went on a breakaway and scored just under the crossbar at 8:02.
Games in Teeswater consist of 3 - 15 minute periods, on a much larger ice surface than ours and midway through the 3rd period it was obviously taking a toll on our girls.
It looked like we were going to take the game, until a dreaded turnover at the blue-line with 0:27 left on the clock gave a clear shot to the Blades' Emma Fortney and she managed to sneak it in just under Ash's glove to tie it up.
So ... the 3rd match-up of the season with this team ended in our 3rd straight TIE.
GREAT GAME LADIES ... BE PROUD!!
The girls were very happy to welcome teammate
BROOKLYN MOLE back to the lineup this weekend after an even longer absence.
