The girls played 2 games on Friday to determine the standings going into the semi-final round that would start Sunday.
Game 1 was a 3-1 win over the Mitchell Meteors.  Goals were scored by Amanda Zettle, Katie Brancati and Callan Yost.  Emily Roney backstopped her team with the win in net.
Game 2 was a 3-2 loss to the Ilderton Jets.  Callan Yost and Morgan Williamson were the goal scorers.  Hannah Mustard played an amazing game in net, making some great saves against an aggressive Ilderton team.

Sunday’s semi-final game had us once again facing the Ilderton Jets.  The girls were determined to show this team who was boss.  After a scoreless first period, the second was filled with back and forth scoring that started at 9:05 with Ilderton.  Emily Moore got us on the scoreboard at 2:43 remaining with an assist from Amanda Zettle.  The Jets quickly replied just over a minute later with the goal that would be their final of the game.  With less than a minute left in the second, Emily Moore was unassisted in tying up the game.  Our girls continued to shoot hard at their net, but the Ilderton goalie was not letting anything past her.  At 11:02 of the third, Morgan Williamson made a smart pass back to the point where Erica Vokes released a powerful slapshot at the net that was tipped by Valerie Gibbons to take a lead that they would never look back from.  As hard as Ilderton tried, the Rebels hung on for the win.  Emily Roney was stunning between the pipes for the W.  The Midget girls wished their Bantam sisters luck as the junior squad headed into the finals and we left for Exeter to play one of our own.

The team patiently waited to take the ice as we watched winter’s first storm of the year blow in around us.  The championship final was played against the host South Huron Sabres.  At this point, at the end of a long day, the Rebels were running out of gas, and after South Huron scored in the second, were unable to get themselves onto the scoresheet.  Hannah Mustard held the score at 1-0, despite many attempts by South Huron, and was awarded player of the game.

It was after the game that the excitement began.  Many text messages from Rebels families on the road advised our team to stay where we were for the night.  Driving was treacherous with strong winds and no visibility.  After deliberation amongst our team and not much luck finding accomodations in Exeter we consulted the arena attendant for help.  “Devon” soon became our “host with the most”.  Cots and blankets were assembled in the adjoining community hall that became our accomodations for the night.  After a long evening of great team bonding, we all settled into our makeshift beds to wait out the storm.  We awoke to coffee and muffins from a good Samaritan and headed out en mass towards home.  Roads were still icy, but we all managed to get home safe and sound.
