WOAA Maroon Division CHAMPIONS
Our season has come to a perfect end...three games of hockey and three wins to crown us the WOAA Maroon Division Champs!
Game One of the Midget Year-End Tournament found us squaring off against Lucknow. After a scoreless first period, we finally got a point on the board from the combined efforts of all three forwards. Valerie Gibbons finally found the back of the net with the puck that bounced from Katie Brancati to Kylie Maue and then lastly to Val. A minute later, the defence efforts of Natalie Stephens and Madison Ames delivered the puck to Amanda Zettle who claimed the second point of the game. The score stayed 2-0 until Lucknow spoiled Hannah Mustard's shut-out with a shot that she got a piece of, but still managed to bounce into the net. Final score: 2-1
Game Two: Rebels vs South Bruce
This game proved to be a very physical and penalty filled contest. Early in the first, Abby Acton got us on the board with assists going to Shannon Stryker and Madison Ames. It wasn't for a lack of shots, but finally with 3 minutes left in the second Natalie Stephens scored marker number two on an assist from Morgan Williamson. The penalty box doors continued to swing throughout the third, and in a last ditch effort with 2 minutes remaining, two more quick goals were scored by Morgan Williamson and Valerie Gibbons to end the game at 4-0. The shutout was earned by the birthday girl, Emily Roney.
The two wins secured our position in the championship game against Bruce Peninsula. We knew going in that this game would be a close one and that is indeed how it ended. It was a shot from the point by Erica Vokes at 9:26 of the first period that deflected off of Morgan Williamson and past the solid goaltending of Paige Concordia. Despite many scoring attempts by both teams and end to end action, neither net saw another goal. Chatsworth WON 1-0! Hannah Mustard was awarded the shutout. The TCDMHA Town & Country Garden Centre Midget B Rebels are the 2015-2016 WOAA Maroon Division Champions.
Our best wishes go the Bruce Peninsula Predators as they represent our area in the OWHA Provincial tournament.
