MOVING ONTO THE CHAMPIONSHIP ...
It was a successful day for the 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C Girls in their W.O.A.A. Year End Tournament, being held in Teeswater and Wingham.
The top 3 teams all finished the round-robin 2-1-0, so it came down to points awarded per period.
1st with 10 points - Saugeen Shores Storm
2nd with 9.5 points - REBELS
3rd with 9 points - South Bruce Blades
So ... Rebels play the Storm in the Maroon Division Championship, Sunday at 11:30am.
With teammate Emma Watson still on the injured list, and Reese Wilkins on exchange in France ...
The girls were happy to welcome 2 very talented PeeWee players to help fill their roster this weekend.
Abby Vokes and Jessica Davidson are a great addition to the team.
Game 1 vs Saugeen Shores
2 - 0 shut-out WIN ( 4.5 points )
It was another fast paced game with this strong team, and the REBELS rose to the challenge.
Kirsten Sutter got them going with an unassisted goal at 3:15 in the 1st period, and the 2nd went by leaving both teams scoreless.
Midway through the 3rd period,
Morgan Moran kept the puck in at the blue line and centred it for
Joren Wilcox who slipped it in the corner of the net at 7:34.
Ashlynn Stephenson made some amazing saves to keep the Storm off the board and earned the shut-out.
Game 2 vs South Bruce
3 - 1 loss ( .5 points )
It was an even battle between these league rivals. The Blades scored 1st on a breakaway at 3:08, but
Abby Vokes answered back at 1:19 assisted by
Grace Kivell and
Jade Gilchrist.
The Blades snuck in another in the 2nd, with a wrap around at 9:13 and found the back of our empty net at 0:02.
Tatem Edwards was solid in net for the REBELS, making many key saves.
Game 3 vs Mount Forest
4 - 0 shut-out WIN ( 4.5 points )
After a scoreless 1st period,
Kirsten opened up the scoring with an angled shot far side top corner, assisted by
Grace at 7:10.
Kirsten muscled through to the net just 40 seconds later and (as if in slow motion) shovelled the puck over the goal line, unassisted.
Jessica Davidson got a pass to
Kirsten, who found
Grace at the net for a goal at 3:55.
**Our statisticians had it figured out that the girls still needed to win the point for the 3rd period to put them ahead of South Bruce, so the pressure was on to score again.**
With 2:22 left on the clock, they did just that!
Joren Wilcox buried the puck, assisted by the sister duo of
Abby and
Maddy Vokes.
Ashlynn and her strong defence kept the puck clear of our net for the final 2 minutes, to secure the shut-out.
