LIGHTNING STRUCK the REBELS ...
The COUNTRY CHARM MENNONITE FURNITURE Bantam 'C' Girls hosted the Georgian Shores Lightning on Sunday.
Even though the REBELS never quit shooting, the Lightning goalie had an amazing game and denied all but 2 shots into her net.
Despite some expert penalty killing in the 1st period ... the tone for the game was set when we deflected the puck into our own net on a power-play to give the Lightning the lead.
The REBELS quickly regrouped and Grace Kivell scored with the help of Kirsten Sutter and Jess Moran less than a minute later, but the Lightning went ahead again with just 27 seconds left in the 1st with a screened shot from the point.
The Lighnting added another at the start of the 2nd period, but Tatem Edwards kept both teams out of her net for the remainder of her stay.
We put out the extra skater with 3 minutes left in the 3rd desperate for a goal, and the risk paid off with a pass from Jess to Erica McComb who was ready at the net.
They pulled Tatem again looking for the tying goal, but the Lightning goalie wouldn't hear of it. Instead, they managed to get control of the puck and snuck it into our empty net for a final score of 4 - 2.
It was an exciting game for the many freezing fans in attendance right down to the final buzzer.
