Rebels Iron out Wingham:
Thursday night at the Wingham rec. centre, the Air-Tech Bantam's were fresh off a tough
practice and ready to put the game plan into effect.
Both sides opened the first period trading off some chances.
Play was fairly equally distributed at both ends of the ice. Wingham had
the best of us for shots 12 to 9 but a lot coming from long distance and
not really testing Ryley to badly. He was strong when needed and made a
beauty stop on a partial breakaway to keep Wingham off the board in the
first. The lone goal in the first was scored by Evan on a real nifty
long rush going five hole. at 9:01 of the first.
After a fresh scrubbing of the ice the Ironmen came out with a bit of
jump scoring two real quick ones taking the lead 2 to 1 the boys settled
down and really started to put things to the home squad Evan scored his
second of the game assisted by Schwartzy. Shots in the second favoured
the rebels 13 to 2 and besides the two early goals, the big dogs dominated
play for the remainder of the period and the rest of the game.
Going into the third with a tie is never a horrible thing but we missed
on a number of chances to really bury Wingham. Coach Hammond and
Schwartz lost a couple of years off their lives dealing with the
stress of a close game. Wingham had their chances in the third in a few
brief spurts where we got hemmed in deep in our own end, Ryley was up to
the challenge and threw a wall at the blue white and gold. Shots in the
third were in favour of the rebels 17-6 and the lone tally, the winner
and completed hat trick came off Evan's stick with another helper from
Schwartz. Final score 3-2 Rebels, final shots 39-20 Rebels and that
didn't include 4 posts and three or four goal mouth scrambles where the
puck needed to move about two or three inches to be another tally for
the visitors. Good job fella's and off to the big tourney in Arthur on
Sunday.
