As most are aware the Grey Bruce Highlanders were unable to ice
a Midget Team for the 2011-2012, when that decision was made Highlander
executive made a committment to promote and develop a plan to ensure the players
within our zone had the opportunity to play Midget AAA hockey in the future
Highlanders will be hosting an Information Session on Saturday Feb 4th 2:00pm at Chesley Arena for the 2012-13 Midget Team
The Session is open to all Midget age players for the 2012/13 season and their parents. Exciting plans for the upcoming season will be announced and representation from the Executive will be available to answer any questions. Players that are interested in playing Midget AAA hockey next year are encouraged to attend.
***SPRING TRYOUTS***
Another change we are implementing is SPRING TRYOUTs for our Midget 2012-2013 team. Tryouts will commence on Tueday April 17th 8:30 - 10:00 @ Durham Arena.
The Highlanders will be following the Canadian Developement Model (CDM) which states that the Midget AAA team (1995/1996) has the first right to sign a 16 year old player. If a release for a 16 year is requested by a Junior D/C team the Midget AAA team must offer this player a registration.
A 16 year old player must have a written Permission to Skate from his Midget AAA Zone (the key here is AAA Zone not just his Home Centre) before he can tryout with a Junior D/C team.
Written Permission to Skate does not, in any manner, constitute a player’s release.
Players attending a Junior D/C camp should also be on the ice with their Midget AAA Zone (as long as they have not been released).
If a 16 year old player wants to tryout for a Junior D/C team he would request a Permission to Skate from his home Centre to attend the Midget AAA tryouts and then he would request a Permission to Skate from his Midget AAA Zone to attend the Junior D/C tryouts.
With the change in our tryout dates we would encourage you to communicate with your Midget players (1995/1996) that they must get a Permission to skate from home centre and attend Highlander AAA tryouts starting April 17th before attending Junior C or D training/rockie camps
