WHITE Division Consolation Finalists
The TCDMHA "Homelife/Bayside Realty" Atom Girls Rebels travelled to Ayton this past weekend to take part in their league’s final playoff tournament. The girls got off to a slow start, but saved their best hockey of the season for their final two games, ultimately winning the White Division Consolation Final.

The girls came up against Teeswater in their first game on Friday night, but turned in a somewhat lack lustre performance, falling 4-0 to the Monarchs. McKinley Turnbull led the scoring for Teeswater with two goals and an assist, while Mickayla Christie picked up the shutout for the winning team.

The girls then faced off against Georgian Shores on Saturday, knowing their season was on the line and that the game would be a tough won, as their previous record against the Lightning was 0-2. Upon coach Brad Vokes’ instruction, Rachel Mallette and Abby Vokes took on the challenge of shadowing the Lightning’s star player, Abygail Grexton. This freed up the ice for the rest of the team and the Rebels opened the scoring with a goal from Grace Kivell, assisted by Tristin Brown. Grexton would break free and tie the game up late in the first, but Rebels’ goalie, Grace Vokes, made sure that the Lightning didn’t get on the board any more for the rest of the game. Sammy DeJong scored the go-ahead goal in the second period for the Rebels, as she parked in front of the net and popped in a rebound from a shot by Aly Airdrie. Kivell added another goal in the period and Kirsten Sutter netted one in the third, as the Rebels went on to win the game 4-1. Mallette and Jade Gilchrist picked up assists on the goals.

This win put the Rebels in the consolation final on Sunday against the Walkerton Capitals. The girls carried their momentum from the previous day’s win into the final, where they defeated their opponents in convincing fashion by a score of 5-1. Kirsten Sutter and Grace Kivell each scored a pair for the Rebels, while Abby Vokes added a single marker. Assists came from Aly Airdrie, Rachel Mallette, and Tristin Brown. Rebels goalie, Grace Vokes, didn’t see a lot of action thanks to the excellent play of her defense, but she too had a strong game, allowing only one goal from Capitals player, Nicole Schmidt.

Congratulations on your big win, girls! Great team effort!
