REBELS and HUSKIES DEADLOCKED
The TCDMHA "Homelife/Bayside Realty" Atom Girls Rebels
got off to a slow start in their exhibition game against the Durham Huskies this
afternoon, falling behind early by 3 goals.
Sammy DeJong finally opened the scoring for the Rebels late in the second period as she drove hard to the net and tipped one by a sprawling Huskies goalie.
In the third period, Janna Wardell chipped the puck up along the boards and out of the Rebels' zone to Abby Vokes who carried the puck all the way to Durham's end, eventually scoring. Rebels defenceman, Tristin Brown, added a third goal for the Rebels as she jumped up on the rush and fired a shot into the corner of the net. The Rebels then took the lead as Jamie Gilchrist completed a beautiful backhand pass to Grace Kivell, who ripped a shot throught the Durham goalie's five-hole. The Huskies came back to tie the game with about two minutes left in the period, after a long battle in front of the Rebels' net, resulting in a 4-4 tie.
The Rebels hope to carry their momentum over into their playoff tournament next weekend in Ayton.
