Heartbreakers!
The Howell Transport TCDMHA Midget LL Rebels came oh, so close, to adding some new numbers to their points total in a pair of games last weekend.  The Rebels fought hard to eke out at least one point, using their textbook defence and tenacious board work to come within one goal of a tie in each game.

In the Friday night game against the Bruce Peninsula Predators in Wiarton, the only scoring happened in the last five minutes of the second period.  BP opened with a goal around the five-minute mark, followed by another puck that found the back of the net after a crazy bounce off a player in the slot.  Rebels defenceman, Jack Scott, answered back with a goal but the Rebels could not bury another to earn the tie.

In the second game at “home” in Markdale against Walkerton 2 on Sunday afternoon, the Rebels busted out of the gate, leading 3 – 1 by the end of the second on two goals by Jake Hartman (one unassisted and the second assisted by Jeremy Kirk), and one by Chris Hardman (unassisted).   Then the bottom fell out of the Rebels’ game; Walkerton scored five unanswered goals in the third period before the hometown boys said, “Enough is enough!”  Brodey Elliot put home a beauty set up by linemates, Chris Hardman and Tiki Stockwell.  The Jake Hartman Show continued, as Jake earned a well-deserved hat-trick on a goal set up by Josh Currie.  Unfortunately, enough wasn’t quite enough as the Rebels again came within one point of tying the game.

The Rebels continue to show character and grit when they face opponents who engage in overly aggressive tactics to win games.  Good job, Rebels, playing your game!
