The points train keeps on rolling!
The Howell Transport TCDMHA Midget LL Rebels picked up three points in a busy final weekend of the regular season, keeping their 2018 undefeated streak alive as they head towards the playoffs.

The first game on Saturday night in Kincardine was the second of back-to-back games against the Kinucks, with the Rebels looking to sweep the series with a second win against the fourth-place team.  The Rebs did not disappoint.  With Josh Currie leading the charge on both Rebels goals, the first assisted by Garrett McNabb and Jake Hartman, and the second assisted by Jake Hartman, the Rebels mounted an unrelenting offensive from the opening puck drop to the final buzzer.  At the other end of the ice, the Rebels defence put on a clinic in a near-perfect shutdown of any attempts by their opponents to get close to the net.  The star of the show was netminder, Devin Early, whose play between the pipes was sizzling hot, earning him a well-deserved shutout.  Final score: TCDMHA 2, Kincardine 0.

The second game at home on Sunday was a rematch against Mt. Forest.  In their previous meeting, the Rebels were temporarily taken aback in an overly aggressive and loosely called game in the Mt. Forest rink, but this time, the good guys were ready for whatever their opponents threw at them.  The Rebels opened the scoring in the first period on a booming shot by Garrett McNabb, assisted by defenceman, Duncan Martin.  Mt. Forest would later tie it up and then go ahead by one in the second before Josh Currie tied it again near the end of the period on a goal assisted by defenceman, Jordan Longland.  Neither team would score in the third, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

Two waived-off goals, particularly one in the dying minutes of the third that wasn’t counted because the Mt. Forest net got kicked off its moorings, show just how close the Rebels came to extending their win streak to four.  You’ve got a good thing going, Rebels!  Keep it up!

One quick side note: This hockey mom has seen some amazing things, but never has she seen all six players on the ice shove themselves in front of the net to prevent a goal.  When a routine clearing play didn’t go quite as expected, a diving Jordan Longland “Supermanned” himself in front of a shot to save what would have been sure goal.  Within seconds, the entire on-ice squad had rushed in to help, and when the whistle finally blew, the overall result looked something like a six-man pileup.  Somewhere at the bottom of the heap with the puck safely covered was the goalie, Devin Early, who no doubt has never felt so loved.
