Bring it on!
The Howell Transport TCDMHA Midget LL Rebels took on the
Walkerton 2 team in Walkerton last night.
Walkerton came to the rink with a perfect 4-and-0 record, and in typical
bulldog style, the Rebels welcomed the challenge, inviting their opponents to “bring
it on.”
The first period was back-and-forth, high-intensity action, with both teams sharing puck possession and splitting scoring chances. Clearly, the opponents got more than they expected from the Rebels as our boys shut down their offence, even opening the scoring with a beauty point shot from defenceman, Duncan Martin. Before the period ended, Walkerton managed to tie up the score, and early in the second, pulled ahead to take the lead on a powerplay goal. The Rebels managed to kill off the next penalty, and then added the tying marker on a sweet breakaway by Chris Hardman. A third penalty cost the Rebels the go-ahead goal, and the teams went to the second period intermission with Walkerton 2 leading 3-2.
The third period saw more of the “tennis on ice” back-and-forth play that opened the game, with opportunities by both teams to net more goals. Supreme saves by Rebels netminder, Devin Early, kept the team in the game. Then, with just over five minutes left, Walkerton managed to find the net one more time giving them the insurance goal. Despite unrelenting pressure by the Rebels, they could not find the net and Walkerton 2 went on to win the game 4-2.
Great effort, Rebels!
