Win on the Weekend in Walkerton
The Howell Transport TCDMHA Midget LL Rebels posted their
first win of the season, taking down the Walkerton 1 team in Walkerton last
Saturday night.
The Rebels allowed two unanswered goals in the first, digging themselves into a bit of a hole, before shutting down Walkerton with what can only be described as a defensive smackdown. Playing a penalty-free game with perfect positioning, backchecking, defensive zone coverage, and goaltending, the Rebels would allow no more goals against for the rest of the game.
On the offensive side, the Rebels’ perfect positioning and aggressive play translated into three unanswered goals of their own, two in the second – one by BrodEy Barwick from Talmon Ash and Hunter Courtney and the other by Jeremy Kirk from Josh Currie – and the game-winner in the third on a bullet by Garrett McNabb assisted by linemate BrodEy Barwick. Heart-stopping saves by netminder, Devin Early, rounded out a stunning performance by the team.
Rumour has it that the pre-game rituals may have had a behind-the-scenes influence on the intensity and energy level of the game. Players are strongly encouraged to select from any combination of the following menu items – a salami sandwich and French onion soup with a root beer float - to ensure more points in the win column in the future. Congratulations, Rebels! Great game!
