Tough 6-4 Loss on the Road
The Barry's Construction Atom LL#2 squad travelled to Southampton today to face the Saugeen Shores #1 team. The visiting Rebels found themselves trailing 2-0 after one period of play. They began the second period short handed after being penalized with a cross checking penalty. However, instead of sitting back the Rebels took charge and dominated the play.
13 seconds into the second period Xander Kirk found the back of the net, with the assist going to Karissa Rasmussen. Then just 34 seconds later Rasmussen fired the puck on net with the pass from Kirk and the Rebels were back in it! Neither team was finished though, and after battling to keep the puck in the zone Logan Curtis found Rasmussen's stick and she shot a bullet past the Storm goalie. The score was tied 3-3 going into the third. Great back checking and hustle from Rebels defence Finn McKee as well as the ability to hold the line and tie the opposition up in front of our net by Jackson Greig and Jimmy Couch, allowed the Rebel forwards more chances in the offensive zone. The rookie line of Ashton Spencer, Austin Rasmussen and Jake Oatt skated hard from end to end. Andersen McComb frustrated the defence as he battled for position in front of the Storm net. One period was all that was left to decide the game. After a quick pep talk at the bench the third period was under way. Rebels goalie Wyatt Garren stopped numerous breakaways, and along with his teammates played a great third period. Unfortunately the Storm squad took a 4-3 and then a 5-3 lead early in the third. Without giving up until the final whistle though, Kirk nets his second of the game un-assisted! Saugeen would go on to add one more insurance marker and the Rebels squad fall 6-4 in their first game of the season. Great work team!
