The freezing rain warning may have cancelled school across 2 counties, but it didn't stop the game!
Thankfully the temperature cooperated and the Drayton Defenders were able to safely make the drive to Chatsworth for Game 2 of the OMHA QUARTER-FINAL Series.
Right from the puck drop, the pace was fast and the battle was even.
Both goalies were kept busy and did an amazing job of keeping the score low.
Five minutes in, defenseman
Cory Rasmussen got the Rebels on the board, assisted by
Clayton Kreuger and
Austin King.
Austin McComb let a shot go short side from the hashmarks at 3:57 in the 2nd, to go into the flood with a 2 goal lead.
The 3rd period was full of aggressive plays and penalty minutes. The Defenders pulled their goalie for the final minute of the game and it paid off when their extra skater went undetected up to our blue line, picked up a long pass and sailed right in and scored at 0:10.
The Defenders goal tender stayed on the bench for the faceoff at centre, and
Mitch Faust forwarded the puck into the offensive zone and
Hunter Schultz got control of it and buried the empty netter at 0:1.3
Final Score: Rebels 3 - Defenders 1
See everyone in Chatty on Valentines Day for Game 3!
Good Luck to Calvin Stewart, Jack Kivell and Danny Rourke who are heading to Provincials for Broomball this weekend.
