TIE . . . WE'LL TAKE IT!
GILCHRIST strikes again as the 'Country Charm Mennonite Furniture' BANTAM C Girls hosted the 1st Place Saugeen Shores B Storm.
In their 4th and final match-up of the season with this strong team, the girls stepped it up and held their own. Down to 8 skaters in our line-up today, we were thankfully able to recruit Aly Airdrie and Brooklyn Mole from our HL team.
Both Tatem Edwards (Rebels) and Marley Scott (Storm) were amazing in their nets and kept the 1st, 2nd and 10 minutes of the 3rd period scoreless, with the assistance of the excellent defence at both ends of the ice.
With a 5 on 3 advantage, the Rebels finally got on the board at 5:43 when
Grace Kivell sent the puck to
Jade Gilchrist, who slipped it in under the goalie and over the goal line (it happened so quick, a replay would have been handy for this one).
The Storm didn't let up and with 2 separate interference penalties called on the Rebels, the girls spent the final 3:40 short handed. Riley Funston managed to sneak the puck just inside the post at 1:43 to tie the game ... and although there were some close calls, neither team could get that go-ahead-goal.
Final Score: 1 - 1
