Team Bonding ... SilverMedal ... and a Blizzard
Congratulations to the COUNTRY CHARM MENNONITE FURNITURE - Bantam C Girls team on a fun, successful weekend and a
SILVER MEDAL at the
South Huron Pink on the Rink Tournament.
The girls all worked hard, played hard and finished 1st in Round Robin with 4 straight WINS ... with 10 goals for and 1 goal against.
Game 1 vs Lucan Irish
5 - 0 shut-out WIN
Sammy DeJong started off the scoring on a pass from
Reese Wilkins behind the net, assisted by
Joren Wilcox at 4:31 in the 1st period.
Just 23 seconds later
Grace Kivell found the back of the net, assisted by
Morgan Moran and
Kirsten Sutter.
Grace carried the puck in and took the shot,
Kirsten picked it up behind the net and it passed out to
Jade Gilchrist for a one-timer into the net at 4:00 in the 2nd period.
Emma Watson shot from the point and
Kirsten buried the rebound at 9:21 in the 3rd, and for the final goal ...
Morgan got the puck to
Grace who skated the length of the ice with Jade even with her across the ice.
Grace made the pass and
Jade took the shot and scored at 4:35.
In the final minute of the game, Lucan managed to get through our defence and fired a puck on net ... but the luck of the Irish was with us, as it hit the goal post and flew away from the net.
Tatum Edwards recorded the Shut-Out.
Jade Gilchrist worked hard at both ends of the ice and was awarded the game MVP.
Game 2 vs East Lambton Eagles
2 - 0 shut-out WIN
Jade passed back to
Emma at the point, who took the shot on net and
Kirsten was there with the rebound into the net at 7:46 in the 1st period. The play went end to end for the entire 2nd period and 10 minutes of the 3rd, before
Kirsten scored again on a pass from
Grace at 4:43. There were many other scoring chances for the Rebels, but the Eagles goalie kept the bottom half of the net covered well.
Ashlynn Stephenson recorded the Shut-Out.
Kirsten Sutter definitely earned the game MVP.
Game 3 vs South Bruce Blades
3 - 1 WIN
Morgan got the Rebels on the board with a hard shot from the point (and maybe a deflection off a Blades defence) at 2:32 in the 1st period.
The team effort of
Kirsten,
Grace and
Jade scored the 2nd goal at 7:04 in the 2nd period for a bit of insurance, but the Blades did manage to score on a 3 on 1 at 3:56 in the 3rd to build the tension up again.
The Blades pulled their goalie with 2 minutes left and at 0:57
Sam chipped the puck past the Blades defence and made her way down the ice to score the empty netter.
Tatum played great in the Rebels net.
Morgan 'the wall' was awarded the game MVP.
SEMI-FINAL vs BCH Ice Dogs
5 - 0 shut-out WIN
Reese waisted no time getting the puck in the net, with the assistance of
Joren and
Sam just 39 seconds into the game.
In a 4 on 4 at the end of the 1st period,
Jade pushed her way to the net to receive the pass from
Kirsten, assist to
Kenna McKee from the point.
The 2nd period went by scoreless and capitalizing on a power play early in the 3rd,
Maddy Vokes sent a back-hand shot into the net, on a pass from
Kirsten at 11:42.
Joren sent another back-hand into the net at 7:34 assisted by
Sam and
Maddy.
Lindsay Eilliot fired from the blue line and
Sam finished off the scoring in a scuffle at the Eagles net with the help of
Joren at 2:26.
Ashlynn earned the shut-out in net.
No MVP award for the Semi-Final game ... but it could have gone to each and every player on the team!

CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL vs the undefeated Sarnia Ladies Sting
2 - 0 loss.
This game was not meant to be ... we had plenty of scoring opportunities, but either hit the goal posts or the bee (like a target) on the goalie's jersey.
Sarnia was a team of big, strong girls and they knew how to use it. They worked our defence hard and did manage a breakaway goal at 3:24 in the 1st period. Due to an injury that occured in that period, we brought Reese back to help out on defence.
It wasn't until our net was empty in the final minute of the game that the Sting sealed our fate. Lindsay rushed back with the Sting offence, slid and made the save ... but they got a hold of the loose puck again and sent it into the empty net with 1:06 left on the clock.
The girls kept the pressure on and the puck in the Sting's end for the final minute, but just weren't able to get it in the net.
Tatum was solid in the Rebels net and defended it well.
Reese was awarded the game MVP.

Over the course of the day we had all been watching the weather change from warm - heavy rain, to cold - snow flurries, and by the time we were ready to head north it was a full on blizzard. Three hours and many texts later all our Bantam families were safely accounted for. Thankfully, Monday was a Snow Day ... the girls definitely deserved it!
Our schedule allowed the girls time to cheer on the Peewee C girls in their Championship game, and the Midget B girls in their Semi-Final game. It was a great weekend of bonding with the families of all 5 of our Rebels teams, at the Oakwood Resort and the different arenas.
We'll definitely be back again next year!
