Midget Girls Bring Home the Silver!
The TCDMHA Town & Country Garden Centre Midget Rebel Girls had a fantastic time at the Orillia Hawks tournament this weekend. They opened the tournament Friday morning with a 2-1 victory over the St Marys Rock. Morgan Williamson put them on the board midway through the first period and Emily Moore followed suit with 1 second to go in the first.

The Rebels held them off until the third when the Rock put one passed Hiemstra, but our girls were able to hold them off for the win.

Friday night they headed over to Rama to face the Timmins Blue Herons. Williamson scored first to put the Rebels up 1-0 in the second period, but Timmins rallied back to tie it with 2 mins left in the period. The Blue Herrons popped one in early in the third to put them ahead 2-1, but Skylar Golem answered right back for the Rebels to tie it up again. It was a well fought battle, but the game would end in a 2-2 tie.

The Rebels faced the Bancroft Jets on Saturday morning. Emily Moore put the Rebels on the board first, but the Jets tied it up with 36 seconds to go in the period. The Rebels came out strong in the second and Amanda Zettle found the back of the net to put us up 2-1. With a little over 5 minutes to go in the third, Kaitlin Brancati finally broke her dry spell and found the back of the net and the Rebels won 3-1, clinching their spot in the championship game.

Bancroft defeated Timmins on Saturday to set up the rematch with the Rebels in the final. The Rebels came out flat allowing the Jets to score 2 quick goals in the first and a third before the end of the period. However, they managed to pull it together and came back with a vengeance in the second. Brancati found the back of the net early in the period and Williamson followed suit just before the buzzer to end period 2. With fans on the edge of their seats, Brancati tied it up with 1:26 to go in the third, sending the game into overtime. The scored remained 3-3 after a 5 minute overtime and it went to a shootout. The Rebels gave it a valiant effort, but the Jets scored 2 for a 4-3 victory and the Rebels had to settle for silver.

It was a great weekend of hockey with all 4 teams in our division very well matched. Awesome job Rebels!!
