ReBeLs TAKE Game 1 of OMHA Quarter-Finals
It was an evenly matched, high scoring game on Saturday as The Homelife Bayside Realty Atom AE Rebels narrowly defeated the Mariposa AE Lightning, in the 1st game of their OMHA Quarter-Final series.
The Lightning took an early lead, scoring 2 goals in the first 5 minutes.
The Rebels got on the board when defenceman Clayton Johnson went end to end with the puck and managed to sneak it by Mariposa's goalie @ 3:08 - assisted by Austin King and Jakob Moran.
The Lightning scored again with a minute left ... and the Rebels answered back @ 0:18 when Carson Yost went for a skate around the Mariposa defence and shot one high into the net.
Heading into the 2nd period down 3 - 2, the Rebels got 2 quick goals by Chris Hardman on a power play and Carson Yost, 30 seconds later - both unassisted. The Lighning came back with one of their own to tie it up, while we had 2 boys in the box and added another to take the lead again. The boys weren't giving up yet, as Carson Yost carried the puck all the way down the ice and took a shot ... the goalie blocked it but left the puck loose and Jakob Moran moved in for the rebound. 30 seconds later Austin Waite got the go-ahead-goal to end the 2nd period up 6 - 5 - assisted by Carson Torrie and Chris Hardman.
After a flood and a pep talk the boys came out strong for another 15 minute period. Carson Torrie got the Rebels' only goal of the period - assisted by Austin King and Carson Yost. The Lighning answered right back with what ended up being their last of the period, leaving the FINAL SCORE 7 - 6 for the REBELS!
The Rebels' convoy is heading to Little Britain (near Lindsay) this weekend for Games 2 and 3.
