Make a wish!
If the fans of the Moggie Valley Timber Midget LL Rebels could
make one wish for the team, it would be this: that the boys could play the
third period of every game as strongly as they play the first two.
In the first period of playoff action in game #1 against the Blyth-Brussels Burgundy team, the Rebels came charging out of the gate. In fact, they scored first on a textbook cross-ice pass from assistant captain, Brodey Barwick, to linemate Noah McNab who buried the puck in the back of the net. Strong fore- and back-checking by the forward lines, along with stellar defence and solid goaltending, kept the opponents at bay, and by the end of the second, the best that Blyth-Brussels could do was tie the score at 1.
But, the Rebels’ old nemesis – penalties – reared it’s ugly head once more. The Rebs can do a good job at the occasional penalty kill, but when the avalanche of bodies going to the box hits, it hits hard. Playing shorthanded for a significant portion of the third, the Rebels quickly got behind three goals, with little time left in the period to close the gap. In the end, Blyth-Brussels added one more, snatching away any chance for a Rebels victory, and the game ended with a score of 5-1.
We saw what you can do in the first two periods, Rebels, so we’re making the wish! Now, get out there and make it come true!
