The TCDMHA Atom Rep Rebels travelled to Elmvale for the Maple Syrup Country Tournament this weekend. Being the only DD ranked team in a tournament of mostly B centers, they had their work cut out for them.
Friday morning, the Rebels fell 4-1 to the host Elmvale Coyotes in a spirited matchup. Nate Garrett scored the lone marker for the Rebels.
On Saturday, the Rebels led by Austin Cook, found their legs defeating the Seaforth Stars 5-1. Cook scored twice, while Brayden Gibbons, Nate Garrett and Wyatt Cayley added singles.
In Game 3, the Rebels faced the Ayr Flames in a penalty filled matchup. Despite a third of the team being in the box at one point, the Rebels managed to pulloff a 2-0 win. Cook and Cayley each had singles, and Seth Rosenburg earned the shutout.
In the Semi Finals, the Rebels faced off against the Kincadine Kinucks. After 3 periods of great fast paced hockey, the Rebels came away with another 2-0 win. Cayley and Cook scored for the Rebels. Rosenburg earned his second shutout of the day.
The finals was a rematch of game 1 against the hometown Elmvale Coyotes. After 3 periods of fast paced hockey, the score was deadlocked at 2-2, with goals from Cook and Cayley. The Rebels started OT on the power play, but despite some great chances were unable to score during the extra period, sending the game to a shootout. The shootout was scoreless after the two shooters when the Rebel’s third shooter Brayden Gibbons scored on a blistering drive, but the Coyotes third shooter scored as well extending the shootout. Elmvale’s seventh shooter buried the winner, ending the game.
The team staff and parents are extremely proud of what this team accomplished this weekend. It’s not every day a little DD team can face off against some very talented B centers and end up second overall.
Great Work Rebels and Thanks for a Great Season!
