Midget LL Rebels Minto Consolation Champions!
The Kuhl Machine shop, Midget LL Rebels Traveled to Palmerston on Saturday for the Minto Midget Tournament and left as the Consolation Champions.
The Rebles first game of the tournament was against Schomberg. The first period saw both teams trade goals and seen the game tied at 1 going into the second. Scoring for the Rebles was Brock Wardell with assist going to Brandon Wienecke and Jeremy Torrie. A flood after the first period and Zamboni malfunctions resulted in a lenghtly delay. The Rebels lost their game legs and quickly found themselves down 6-1 to an extremely well diciplined and talented Schomberg team. 2 late period goals by Wardell and Tyler Williamson picked up the team spirits. Midway throught the third period seen Schomberg score to make it 7-3. The Rebels replied with 2 more goals by Braedon Weppler and Torrie to make the game close. Additional assist went to Ben Harrison, Mitchell Pringle and Weppler. The 7-5 loss put the Rebels into the consolation side of the tournament.
Game 2 for the Rebels seen them play Walkerton. Walkerton opened the scoring early in the first only to see the Rebels reply 40 seconds later on a goal by Tyler Williamson. A late goal in the first by Weppler had the Rebels up 2-1 only to see Walkerton reply to tie the game at 2 each. The Rebels came out strong in the second and scored a pair of goals by Jamie Grey Scott and with his second of the game, Williamson. The Rebels continued the goal scoring in the third with his second of the game going to Grey Scott. A late third period goal by Walkerton made it close, but left the Rebels with a 5-3 victory. 7 different Rebels had assist in the game. Shelby Kingston was solid in the net for the Rebels. The victory put the Rebels in the consolation championship game.
The consolation championship game had the Rebels playing the host team from Minto. It was a spirited game from both teams. The Rebels opened the scoring on a goal from Weppler. Less than a minute later, Minto replied to tie the game. A late first period goal from Minto had the host team ahead going into the second. The Rebels started the second with 2 goals to make it a natural hat trick by Weppler to put the Rebels in front 3-2. Minto again replied to tie the game at 3. It stayed that way until with .01 left on the clock, Weppler scored his 4th of the game to put the Rebels ahead 4-3 going into the third. Brock Wardell scored midway throught the third the put the Rebels ahead 5-3. Minto poured it on and had several good opportunities including a breakaway. Tony Tedford made the saves when needed to keep the Rebels in front. Brock Wardell scored his second of the game to give the Rebels the cushion they needed and a 6-3 vistory for the win. Assisting on the Rebel goals were Connor Muxlow, Mitchell Pringle, Ben Harrison and Weppler with 2 to see him involved in every Rebel goal.
