OWHA Coaching Staff DOMINATE
Submitted By Vonnie Crawford on Monday, April 4, 2011
After a couple last minute trades to even the teams with a balanced number of skaters. We're ready to rumble

Announcer Murray McNabb introduced the starting lineups, yes even in the introductions there was some finger pointing, stick shaking from one blue line to the other the rivalry had begun.

With the removal of their helmets and hats everyone was invited to please rise and join the Inline Fencing PeeWee Girls "C" in the singing of O' Canada.  With their focus still on hockey and practicing for the upcoming OWHA Provincial tournament in Brampton this weekend instead of choir practice these young ladies did a great job of singing our national anthem with the help of some moms (Erin Weppler, Kim Jex & Krista Bruce).  I did over hear the comment "we should just stick to hockey" and for this week we all agree, focus on the big weekend ahead the entire association is behind you all the way.

With a representative from each of our TCDMHA Championship teams President Don Dietrich dropped the puck and the battle was officially started.

Representing -
Horton's Concrete Finishing NOVICE REP - OMHA/WOAA Jacobi Division Champions – Calvin Stewart

Great Lakes Framing Company ATOM REP - WOAA Gregg Division Champions – Zack Vokes
Inline Fencing PeeWee Girls "C" - WOAA Women's Maroon Champions – Callan Yost
Desboro Garage PeeWee LL - WOAA North Division Local League Champions – Will McNabb

With Dave Lisk in net for the OWHA Rebels and Garnet Schultz tending the net for the OMHA team the pace was fast with lots of end to end action.  Every hockey game you ever go to it's always either the Coaches fault for playing the wrong player or the Ref's fault and this game was no different. Every play either good or bad involved a coach so yes it was the Coaches Fault.

Referee's often have a hard time making 3 or 4 coaches happy during a game can you imaging the job Brandon Dietrich and Lucas Johnson had trying to make the right call with 20 or more coaches all ready to assist "Ref didn't you see that, How could you miss that" it was tough but the fans certainly support your calling 2 penalities against 1 particular coach (not to mention any names)  It's wasn't Brandon or Lucas's fault the OMHA team lost but it could revert back the another Referee.  Had Lisk just let a few more slip past they might have won but I'm confident all the OMHA Rebels took great pleasure in having the opportunity to pepper a ref and fellow coach.

Linda Thompsett provided the only GIRL POWER for the OWHA team well Teresa Buys, Kim Scott & Colleen Harrison helped out the OMHA.

With the OWHA team leading 4 - 0 we gave the teams time to regroup and refocus while the Don Crawford Carpentry Tyke #1 (and friends) entertained the supporters with a mini game.  It was a tough call who was skating faster the Tykes or some of the coaches but these young players have seen great development progress this season thanks to Coaches Chris McComb, Jeff Wardell and Trainer Daren Jex must have them in shape because I didn't hear any player asking for oxygen.  Thanks to Heather Vokes team manager for an outstanding job in ensuring this young group had a good mix of games and practice and getting things organized 1 final time on Sunday afternoon.

Coach Sutter couldn't negotiate any trades during the intermission so with "Slacker Packer" and Dave the Tool Kuhl" promising to pick up the pace we hit the ice for a 2nd period.  The pace continued fast for some and sloooooooower for others, but everyone was giving it their best and having fun and that's all we ever ask of any of our players.

It was a fairly clean game with only the one penalty for tripping to Mr Stewart until the doors flew open and out rushed the Hansen Brother, yes 3 little Chiefs, sticks flailing, skating circles around some of these that could be referred to as "Old Timers".  With the refs furiously trying to get them off the ice without incident not sure what Harry the Big D said but although small in size with the 3 brothers sticking together the gloves were off and Harry was left to defend himself. Girls if Coach McGregor shows up in Brampton with a shiner it truly was the Hansen Brothers and that will teach him for trying to imitate them in Mt Forest during the Reeves Cup last Oct.

After serving their 5 minute fighting, these Chiefs came roaring back this time clearing the OWHA bench, coaches were falling over like dominos when the Hansen Brothers full of spunk went down the bench with fully loaded power shooter water guns.

Special thanks to our Arena Managers Al & Ian for all their assistance and support over the season they've done a great job but Scott the Wrench must have felt it necessary to assist on this final Sunday afternoon as we're not sure if he thought he was checking under a car or just helping to clear the snow when he was on the ice.  It's ok Wrench you probably played more hockey last weekend then some of these young bucks have in the last month.

The supporters were treated to a good ole' fashion game of hockey, fast paced but still having fun.

Thank you to everyone who supported the afternoon, look out OWHA bench staff the OMHA staff are already looking for revenge next season.
