The Xtreme Heating Peewee C Girls braved the storm to earn their first WIN OF THE SEASON in Howick Thursday night against Upper Maitland. It was a night of firsts as new goalie Jaclyn Beirnes also got her first SHUT OUT EVER! It was the first significant snow squalls of the season as well and we thank all the brave parents for getting their hockey players safely to and from the game.
The first period remained scoreless as the girls battled back and forth.
In the second period, Katelyn Maue passed it up to Lyndsay Cumming who rushed the net and got a shot away which rebounded back. Jayden Thalen was sure to bury the rebound making it 1-0 for the Rebels! Our defence were left with only three players; Natalie Mole, Zoe Schriek and Makaleyn Moore due to the storm but did a solid job of keeping the puck in their end. The trio of Lyndsay Cumming, Cecily Mallette and Katelyn Maue kept digging away at the puck putting lots of pressure on the goalie. The whistle blew and when the goalie stood up the ref pointed as the puck was in the net underneath her! Katleyn Maue got her first goal of the season!
The Rebels were ahead 2-0 and goalie, Jaclyn Beirnes kept turning away the shots. For her hard work and first shut out she got the game puck at the end of the game!
We look forward to playing Markdale tomorrow with all our players back who were unable to make it due to the storm.
