Busy weekend yields constant improvement for Horton Concrete Novice Rep Rebels.
The Horton Concrete Novice Rep Rebels saved the best for last in a busy stretch that saw the “puck luck” go against us in the first 2 games this weekend and exploded for a rare 8 goal outburst in a big home win against AEMHA Monday Night.
The weekend started with a home game Saturday against our long-time rivals from Shallow Lake.  After falling to them 6-1 in the first meeting, the Rebels had something to prove and put forth a strong effort...

Rebels’ goalie Jacob Fluney did his best to shut the door but the Rebels were still down 2-0 late in the third period, setting up a furious finish.  With Shallow Lake hemmed into their own end for the last several minutes, Carter Frook was finally able to beat the Laker goalie on an excellent solo effort with just 29 seconds left on the clock.  Despite pulling Fluney for an extra attacker, the Rebels were unable to score and had to settle for a 2-1 loss, but still a huge improvement from the first meeting.
On Sunday
the Rebels braved the weather to make the long trip up to Lion’s Head to face Bruce Peninsula.  This was a hard fought game the entire way with numerous scoring chances at both ends and a noticeable improvement of positional play from our Rebel boys.  Despite doing lots of good things, the dreaded “puck luck” was not on our side as a few early whistle’s negated some quality chances early.  The Predators took a 2-0 lead in the second before a hard point shot from Hunter McComb was able to cut the lead in half.  Assist by Simon Potter.  The Preds scored again to go up 3-1, but the Rebels showed a lot of heart in continually battling for loose pucks and managed to pull within one on a goal by Matthew LaFond, with the assist to Kody Cook.  Despite another furious finish, that is as close as the Rebels got and the game ended in a 3-2 loss.  The good habits started Sunday though would set the stage for the big finish hinted at above…..
The AEMHA Ice Dogs were next up and the boys were fired up from the first drop of the puck; hemming the Dogs in their own end for virtually the entire first period.  Even with the sustained pressure, only one puck from Cook was able to get by the opposing net minder.  The boys kept the heat on to start the second and the flood gates started to open a bit as we were able to score 3 more in the frame to take a 4-0 lead. Goals from Frook, Finlay Johnston and McComb; all unassisted.  The dam finally broke in the third with 4 more going in by Cook, Simon Potter, assisted by Cook, McComb, assisted by Colton King, and finally by Frook, unassisted.  Unfortunately, we were unable to preserve the shutout for Fluney with the Ice Dogs managing to score one late in the third.  Final score 8-1 and probably our best overall effort of the season.  Great job!
