Maverick Lacey Scores Twice in 5 - 0 Victory!!
The Township of Chatsworth "Howell Transport" Bantam LL played the West Grey Warriors on Saturday, December 21st, 2019 at the Normanby Arena in Ayton. It is a busy time of year for hockey families and as a result, both teams had only nine skaters. This promised to be an exciting match up.
Wyatt Garren was in net for the Rebels and he exuded confidence that quickly spread throughout his team. Wyatt allowed no goals in Period One. The goalie for West Grey matched this feat, although he faced a lot of shots on net.
Period Two is traditionally a challenging period for the Rebels....but not today. Layne Edwards buried a laser beam to the net from a beautiful drop pass by Jackson Greig, also assisted by Aiden Callahan-Cummins. The Rebels struck again at 10:09. This time Jackson Greig scored a nice one, assisted by Robert LaFond and Emmett Jackson. The Rebels demonstrated some great passing and the opportunities kept on coming. Maverick Lacey scored the third goal of the game at 3:22 in a scramble in front of the net, assisted by Jeffrey Rodger and by Robert LaFond. 3 - 0 at the end of Period 2.
The Rebels came out in the third period calm, cool, and collected. They were determined to stay out of the penalty box and to keep their feet moving and their passes crisp and accurate. At 4:27, Maverick Lacey struck again with a quick shot from a beautiful cross-crease pass by Aiden Callahan-Cummins, also assisted by Jackson Greig. Robert LaFond completed the scoring at 3:37 with a backhanded shot, nicely assisted by Layne Edwards and....Jackson Greig.
Congratulations to all nine skaters and to Wyatt Garren who earned the shutout!! Wyatt was quoted after the game saying that "he was not that busy today but that he really enjoyed watching his teammates playing hard and passing the puck so well." You are not alone Wyatt!! The coaches and fans enjoyed it too.
