One Step Closer
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels, moved one step closer to a trip to the WOAA finals with a win over the Huron-Bruce Blizzard.

Period 1 started with the play all in the Huron-Bruce end of the ice.  During the first few minutes, the Rebels didn't have many great chances but they still kept play all in the Blizzard zone but at 11:24, from a faceoff just outside the blue line, Austin McComb did it all himself - into the Blizzard end, by the goalie and into the net.
A little over a minute later saw, Jake Moran win the offensive zone face off to Hunter Schultz who made no mistake and buried it to make it 2 - 0 in favour of the Rebels.  Shortly after the goal, Rebels took a penalty.  The penalty kill was good with much of the play remaining in the neutral zone but Huron-Bruce did test Rebel goalie Lawson Cumming and he handled it easily.  The remainder of the first continued much the same with a number of chances for the Rebels and a few for the Blizzard.
Period 2 saw a number of calls which felt very lobsided given the action on the ice.  The was some push back from the Rebel staff, but for the most part, Rebels controlled their disappointment and anger - something they have struggled with all season - and they worked at killing off the string of penalties.  With the strong backing of Cumming, Rebels did a good job of killing the penalties by using an aggressive forecheck and icing the puck.
Finally, in period 3, a penalty was called on the Blizzard.  They weren't as successful at reining in their anger and disappointment and continual complaining from the Blizzard staff and players led to the focus of the officials to be drawn to the Blizzard.  Rebels powerplay was unsuccessful though it had many opportunities in period 3.  Some player combinations led to good scoring opportunities for the Rebels other led to good short handed scoring chances for the Blizzard.  The powerplay is still the one thing that can make or break the Rebels.  Luckily, the two goals scored at even strength in the first were enough to give the Rebels win number 4 in round robin WOAA playoff action.
Rebels are currently in first place in Pool A with a 4 0 0 record.  West Grey is in second with a 3 1 0 record.  That appears to mean if we beat West Grey on Thursday, March 5 @ 9 in Markdale we will clinch first place in the pool even before playing Huron Bruce on Friday, March 6 @ 8:30 in Markdale.  The best way to be certain of a berth to the finals is to win both games.
Come out and cheer your Rebels on to Victory.
Let's go Rebels!!!!!!
