Still In The Hunt
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels clashed again with the Drayton Defenders in pursuit of a trip to the OMHA finals.  It looked like the Rebels had the upper hand in the series and on the ice but looks can be deceiving.

Rebels headed into this game of the six point series tied 3 points each.  The first half of period one was almost all pressure in the Defenders end with several near miss tips and great shots. Finally, with the face off just out of the Drayton zone, Hunter steps over the line and top shelfs it.
Drayton only broke into the Rebels zone a few times, but they made each one count and Lawson Cumming shut them down every time.  Early in the second, the Defenders managed to sneak one in on a shot from the corner to tie it up at 1 all. Rebels still controlled the majority of the  play and even survived an extended period with a player in the box but they couldn't capitalize and headed into the third still tied at one.
Rebels slowed a bit in the third.  They still were creating good chances but there were a few more mistakes and more work for Cumming.  About 5 minutes into the third, a very bad line change lead to a too many men penalty.  Rebels did a good job of killing the penalty at first but then got a bit scrambly and the Defenders took the lead with a power-play goal.
Rebels regrouped and pushed for the tying goal. Finally, just before the 6 minute mark, Wyatt Golem dug out the puck in the corner and fired it to Schultz who flipped it high up over the goalie everyone held their breath as it dropped into the net.  Both teams pushed hard and Cumming had to be sharp but neither was able to score.
The 10 minute sudden death overtime saw the Rebels playing like they were nervous.  Passes that had come easy early in the game were now misdirected or hesitation caused a turnover.  Period 4 saw a lot more end to end hockey with chances at both ends.  Cumming kept the net clear with a couple of lose pucks swept away by his teammates and plenty of acrobatic recoveries of his own.
Neither team managed to find a way to get the puck over the goal line and overtime ended with the teams still tied.
Next game is Saturday, Feb 22 at 7 pm in Harriston.  Winner take all.  Loser go home - which for most of the Rebels a loss would mean they have played their last OMHA game of their minor hockey career.
Come out and cheer on the Rebels so they can extend their season and their 'minor hockey careers'.
Let's go Rebels!!!
