What a Comeback
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels hosted the Drayton Defenders for game 2 of the OMHA series and despite playing with more energy than in game 1 the Rebels quickly found themselves down 2 - 0.
Rebels were more aggressive off the hop and played more as a team. After a series of chances at both ends, Rebels were scrambling in their own end and with several Drayton players open, Rebels found themselves down 1 - 0 at 8:36 of the first.
Rebels fought to even the score and after a number of chances at both ends, Drayton scored goal #2 off a face off in the Rebels end of the ice. Rebels spent the remainder of the first period and the beginning of the second shorthanded. Game #2 was nothing like the penalty free game #1. The first half of period 2 saw every combination of penalty with both teams experiencing being down one and two players. After several consecutive powerplays for the Rebels, they finally scored a powerplay goal with Mitch Stevens assisting Jake Moran to bring them back within 1.
Austin McComb scored the game evener on a shot from Jordan Beirnes and a scramble in front. The penalties continued through the remainder of the second and throughout the third. There were excellent chances at both ends of the ice. Lawson Cumming ensured that the Rebels net stayed clear and the Rebels kept pushing to try to get the go ahead goal. With just over 5 minutes left in the third, Alex Dejong passed it to Austin McComb who headed into the Defenders end and fired at the Drayton net. The simple rush handcuffed the goalie and the Rebels took the lead on McComb's second goal of the game.
There were a number of excellent chances at both ends as the final minutes of the period ticked away.
Finally, the horn went to end the third period and the game, with the Rebels in the lead 3 - 2.
Rebels came away with 2 more points to give them a 3 point to 1 point lead in the 6 point series. Rebels face off in game #3 on Tuesday February 18 @ 9 pm.
