Hat Trick for Schultz
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels clashed with the West Grey Warriors in back to back nights with very different results each night.
Night #1
West Grey opened the scoring at 5:23 of the first when a player all alone in front found the back of the net but Josh Currie assisted Carson Torrie who fired a beauty up and over the Warrior goalie to end out the period tied at 1.
In period 2, just as the Rebels finished killing off a penalty, TCD broke out with Calvin Stewart getting it to Hunter Schultz who buried it to give the Rebels the lead 2 - 1. Play continued end to end, with both teams having some good chances but at 4:06 of the second, multiple Warriors broke out and though Lawson Cumming was able to make an excellent save on the initial shot, Warriors managed to even it on the rebound.
With less than a minute left in period 2, Jack Kivell fired it in deep and Austin McComb dug it out of the corner and sniped one to give the Rebels the lead going into the third.
At the mid-point of the third, Warriors evened the score at 3 but Rebels kept coming and it seemed like a matter of time until they retook the lead. Then, Rebels had a complete meltdown. It was short, but in 31 seconds, the Warriors managed to score 3 goals and though TCD recovered, it was too little too late and the game ended 6 - 3.
Night #2
Once again, West Grey opened the scoring near the midway point of the first when the puck just slipped through, but the Rebels quickly recovered as a beautiful passing play saw the puck moving around McComb to Stewart to Schultz and in the net. Then, on an overlong shift, Schultz flipped the puck down the ice from his own hash marks in order to get a change and a freak misplay by the Warrior goalie saw the Rebels take the lead.
Early in the second, a weird shot from the corner finds its way into the Rebel goal and once again evens the score.
Rebels kept pressuring and a beautiful passing play saw Alex Dejong go around the net and snap a seeing-eye pass to the stick of Schultz who made no mistake and buried it for the hattie for Chatty.
The third started with a pass out of the corner by Jake Moran which Wyatt Golem corralled and with a sweep and a backhand had it around the Warrior netminder and in the net to increase the Rebel lead to 4 - 2.
Both teams continued to play fast skating hard hitting hockey. Warriors had many chances but Cumming turned them all away and the Rebels held on to win the game 4 - 2.
Rebels take to the ice again on Monday night at 8 pm in the Bayshore. This is a fundraising night for the Garrett family, so come out and help a good cause while watching some great hockey.
