LET ME CALL YOU SWEETHEART
The Chatsworth Legion Branch 464 Peewee Girls HL took their “A” game on the road and walked away with the BRONZE medal at the 41st annual Sweetheart Tournament in Orangeville last weekend.

CATCH A TIGER BY THE TAIL

In the first game of the series, the Rebels faced off against the host Orangeville Tigers and skated away with a 3-0 win.

After 2 periods, the Rebels and the Tigers were knotted at zero but the Rebels put on a surge in the 3rd.  Tina Johnson scored first, assisted by Madison Barfoot.  Minutes later, Miss Johnson scored again, assisted by Miss Barfoot and Ally Dunn.  Miss Dunn took the puck from coast to coast and buried it in the net, assisted by Rachel Sweiger.  Shaila Wellwood gave another outstanding show between the pipes and she notched another shutout.

ALL THAT GLITTERS IS NOT GOLD

The Rebels took on the Mississauga Chiefs Gold team in the second game of the tournament.  In a back and forth game, the Chiefs hung on for a 5-4 win.

Tina Johnson scored in the 1st period, assisted by Madison Barfoot.  Ally Dunn scored in the 2nd for the Rebels, assisted by Rachel Sweiger and Keira McMann.  Miss Barfoot put the biscuit in the basket in the 3rd, assisted by Miss Johnson and Miss McMann.  Not satisfied with just one goal, Miss Johnson got a thrilling breakaway and put the puck in the top bin.  At the final buzzer, the Rebels ran out of time and the Chiefs prevailed.

COUNTING SHEEP

The Rebels went into game 3 tied for second place in their pool and were looking for a big win against the Mount Forest Rams.  They found it!

Ally Dunn found the back of the net twice, Tina Johnson skated away with a pair, and Madison Barfoot added a single to the scoreboard.

Shaila Wellwood was stunning in goal and added another shutout to her list and the Rebels secured 2nd place in their pool.

UP IN FLAMES

In the elimination rounds, the Rebels were matched against the 1st place Clarington Flames.  The Clarington team was a powerhouse and bested the Rebels 7-2.

The Rebels got on the board first when Ally Dunn launched a howitzer from the high slot which deflected into the net.  Tina Johnson got a beautiful breakaway goal later in the match.

REBELS ON FIRE!

The Rebels faced the Mississauga Chiefs Gold again the bronze medal game of the tournament.  After losing earlier to this team, the Rebels were hungry for a win in this game.  The Rebels won the game 4-1 and walked away with the bling!

Tina Johnson was outstanding in the game scoring a natural hat trick, three in a row, with two unassisted goals and the third assisted by Madison Barfoot and Ally Dunn.  Miss Dunn added to the Rebels success with a snappy wrister after an end to end skate.

Shaila Wellwood was a ninja in the net, pulling shots out of the air and posting another big win for the Rebels.

The Rebels were on FIRE!  So much so that their victory celebration was cut short by a fire alarm and total evacuation of the arena complex The girls stood outside in the bitter cold, wearing their full, sweaty gear and skates.  Thankfully, it was a false alarm.

The Rebels walked away with bling in their pocket, with the Clarington Flames taking the gold.   The girls had great fun, played outstandingly, and should be very proud of their achievement!

The Rebels face off again on February 4th at 7pm on home ice against the Saugeen Shores Storm.  GO REBELS!
