If they could turn back time…
…or add a bit more to the clock, the TCDMHA Power Workers’ Union Midget LL Rebels might have changed history just enough to eke out a well-deserved point against division rivals, the AEMHA Ice Dogs in last Sunday’s game in Markdale.

The Rebels had the Ice Dogs back on their hind feet right from the moment they came out of the pen.  Dominating the ice with their trademark aggressive forecheck and persistent backcheck, the Rebels kept their opponents corralled in their own zone for most of the first period.  However, a powerplay goal by the Ice Dogs in the last few minutes put them up by one to close out the frame.

True to their bulldog nature, the Rebels didn’t take kindly to other dogs straying into their territory, and they evened up the score in the opening moments of the second on a goal by Chris Hardman from Brandon Lindstrom and Talmon Ash.   Three unanswered goals by the Ice Dogs – two in the second and one at the beginning of the third – expanded opponents’ lead to three, but for the Rebels, no hole is too big to dig out of, and they set to the task with their usual grit and determination.   Josh Currie put in an unassisted marker to narrow the lead to two, and Carson Torrie brought the Rebels within one on a goal assisted by Chris Hardman.  Tearing into the corners and battling ferociously for every puck, the Rebels came close – so very close – to tying it up in the dying moments of the game.  But time ran out on the bulldogs before they could take down their adversaries, and the game ended with a score of 4-3 for the visitors.

The Rebels face their canine nemesis one more time during the regular season in a few weeks, and you can bet they are ready to even the score.    The battle for “Top Dog” in the North Division isn’t over yet!
