Missed it by that much...
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels, braved the weather to travel to Shallow Lake to play game one of the next round of OMHA play.

The Rebels seemed to have learned a lot from their past mistakes.  They avoided bad penalties and were focused on good two-way hockey.  Unfortunately an overlong shift and a bad tip both cost them on the scoreboard but the Rebels played much better in both ends of the ice than we have seen at times and, for the most part, controlled their tempers and got on with the hockey.
The first period was good end to end play.  There were chances at both ends of the ice.  Unfortunately, Rebels seemed to have some difficultly hitting the net while Lakers tended to take better advantage of each opportunity.  Rebels goalie, Lawson Cumming, stood his ground and denied all Lakers and kept the Rebels goal clear through period number 1 including during the only Laker powerplay of the game.
Period number 2 started out much the same.  Hard skating.  Hard passing.  Hard hitting.  With just over 8 minutes left in the second, the Lakers snuck one into the Rebel goal. Rebels really struggled with their powerplay and were unable to capitalize on any of the powerplay opportunites afforded to them in the second or third.
In the third,  Rebels pressed hard to get one past the Laker goalie, however, their shots were turned away.  Less than 2 minutes into the period, Lakers added to their lead when a shot from the point was tipped in front of the Rebel goalie and found the mesh.
Rebels did not give up.  They kept their tempers (mostly) and they kept working.  This led to a number of opportunities and finally everything came together when the 2 defense combined, Jordan Beirnes to Jay Rourke who fired one which was redirected in front by Dalan Frook. This handcuffed the Lakers goalie and cut the Lakers lead in half.
Rebels kept pressing and Cumming kept turning away all Lakers scoring opportunities, but the score remained 2 - 1 in favour of the Lakers.  Even the final buzzer found Rebels in a race down the ice and a sprint for the goal.
Rebels came up just a little short in game 1, but, they did show that they know how to be focused, controlled and play hard in both directions.  They gave the Lakers something to think about and we need all Rebels fans to come out and fill the Markdale arena for game 2 of the OMHA series versus Shallow Lake on Sunday at 2 pm.
Let's make some noise and show the players our support.
Go Rebels Go!!!
