Midget Rep on a Roll
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels are still undefeated in OMHA playdowns as they downed the Central Perth Predators, led by Captain Brandon Stewart with a hat-trick and multi-point games from several others.

The Rebels played a strong offensive game but their defensive play was virtually non-existent. They left goalie Lawson Cumming facing break-aways, 2 on none and there seemed to be always someone wide open in the slot and on the point as the Rebels scrambled in their own end.  Couple that with some bad penalties and it was a recipe for disaster.  However, despite their defensive melt down, the Rebels handed the Predators a 9 -5 loss.
The Rebels opened the scoring when they found some skating room as they played 4 on 4 hockey.  Hunter Schultz beat the Central Perth net-minder to give the Rebels the lead.  But, 20 seconds later the Predators walked in and evened the score at one all.
The Rebels took the lead once again, in the second half of the first, with Jake Moran burying one from the hash marks. Though there were chances at both ends of the ice, the teams started the second 2 - 1 in favor of the Rebels.  Early in the second, the Preds were short-handed for an extended period and the Rebels capitalized when Josh Fritz shot from the point, during a strong power-play by the Rebels, as a Preds defense-man deflected the puck over the Predator goalie.
On a great passing play, Austin blew into the Preds end, throwing the puck off to Wyatt Golem who circled the net and placed it on the stick of Brandon Stewart out front.  Stewart made no mistake and fired it home.  Rebels continued with excellent offensive pressure, but, they continued to break down defensively, with poor back checking and inadequate defensive zone coverage.
The Rebels defense continued to contribute offensively.  Defense-man Jordan Beirnes fired several scorching shots at the Predator net without success, but scored when a knuckle-ball misfire from the point floated by the goalie to give the Rebels a 5 - 1 lead.  It seemed like the game was in hand, but, then, once again, the Rebels fell apart and the Preds capitalized with a goal to close out the period.
Period 3 saw the Rebels come out hard as Brandon Stewart scored his second goal of the game when he did it all on his own and sent one into the Central Perth goal at 14:35 of the third.  However, 13 seconds later, the Predators once again swarmed the Rebels end and closed the gap to 3.  After several minutes of end to end play, Central Perth then cut the Rebels lead to 2 when they once again scored on a defensive break down.
McComb passed the puck and Schultz once again moved in and slid another one into the Preds net.  Once again, the Predators respond with a goal of their own off the face off to make it 7 to 5. Stewart responded off the next face off with a goal of his own to complete his hat-trick.
The Predators were then handed the opportunity to get back in the game as the Rebels headed to the penalty box and Central Perth pulled their goalie.  Despite the odds, the Rebels were not only able to keep the Predators from scoring again but Austin McComb broke out and skated down the ice to find the empty net.
The game ended 9 - 5 in favor of the Rebels, but it felt a lot closer.  Rebels managed to take a 4 to 0 lead in points in the quest to be the first to reach 6 points.  If the Rebels plan to continue to move forward in the OMHA playdowns, they are going to need to start playing 2 way hockey and stay out of the penalty box.
Rebels face off against the Central Perth Predators for game 3 of the series Sunday at 2 pm in Markdale.
