Starting the New Year off right
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie  Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels had a late one in Durham versus West Grey and despite starting out half asleep, the outcome wasn't all bad as the Rebels came away with a point and entertained fans.

Rebel fans held their breath at the opening face off as the West Grey Warriors attacked the puck and stormed the Rebels net.  Goalie Jason Rudolph MacLeod was called upon to stop the Warriors and shut down their attack.  The Rebels then streamed back to the Warrior end to pull off a good scoring chance of their own.  Much of the first period after that point was a little lazy.  Neither team was working together at the level they were capable of and they both seemed a little tentative.  The teams headed into the second period scoreless.
Early in the second, the Warriors drew first blood in the competition as the got one into the Rebel net.  This triggered a flow of penalties which continued for much of the game.  The Warriors scored again about 2 minutes later to take a 2 goal lead.  Then, less than a minute later confusion on a Rebel line change left players out of position, but it seemed to confuse the Warriors as well and it left Jake Moran in the Warrior end with plenty of open ice.  Austin McComb fired the puck across the ice, straight to Moran, who made no mistake and buried it in the West Grey net to cut the deficit in half.
The game continued with a number of chances at both ends of the ice which were turned away.  But, with just over 5 minutes remaining in the second period, the Warriors increased their lead back to 2 goals when they added a power play goal to the board.
The Rebels came out with purpose in the 3rd and once again cut the Warrior lead to one as Brandon Stewart banged in the rebound of a Jordan Beirnes shot from the point.  This seemed to bring both teams to life as they battled for the puck. The third period saw the body contact elevate and as the minutes slipped away, the overall level of play improved.
With 4:52 left in the game, Rebels tied the game, as Stewart scored again with the assist to Beirnes.  The celebration was short-lived however, as the Warriors once again took the lead less than 20 seconds later. but, at 4:04 Hunter Schultz banged home the equalizer (assist to Beirnes) and the game was even at 4 all. Great chances and amazing saves at both ends of the ice right up to the buzzer kept the fans from both teams on the edge of their seat when they weren't on their feet.
Overall, this turned out to be a great first game for 2019.  Coming away with one point for the tie was a good result for the team and exciting for the fans.  Here's hoping with a few tweaks the Rebels can carry the effort of the third period into the final game of the regular season on Sunday and into the playoffs beyond.
Go Rebels Go!!!
