Rebels vs. Lakers
The Township of Chatsworth and District, Moggie Valley Timber Inc., Midget Rep Rebels headed to Shallow Lake to face the Lakers for the first time this season. It wasn't the physical battle everyone anticipated and the teams seemed evenly matched.
The Rebels and Lakers both seemed a little tentative with a number of players on the ice having played school hockey all day and the energy level seemed lower than expected. The first period saw chances at both end of the ice but once again Rebels weren't getting quality shots.
No one seemed to have the upper hand through the first and into the second. But at 12:46 of the second, Rebels found themselves scrambling and the Lakers took advantage and gain the lead in the game 1 - 0. The Rebels seemed deflated and before they could regroup, the Lakers managed to find the back of the Rebel net once again. The Rebels frustration lead them to the penalty box and they played much of the remainder of the second with one or more players in the penalty box. The Rebels managed to put some pressure on the Lakers goalie and finally Austin McComb and Clay Krueger combined to assist Hunter Schultz in putting one by the Shallow Lake netminder.
Both teams continued to press as play went end to end. Finally at 3:33 of the 3rd, Rebel number 33, Jordan Beirnes fired a bullet at the open side of the Laker net. Dalan Frooke stopped the shot in mid-air and then flicked the puck over the goal line. Tie game!
Thoughts of overtime seemed to further exhaust the tired players on the ice as the period neared an end. The Lakers managed to take advantage as a quick passing play allowed them to regain the lead 3 - 2. Rebels pushed but they couldn't manage to tie the game once again.
Rest up Rebels cause next game is Sunday at 2 pm in Markdale vs Blythe-Brussels.
Go Rebels Go!!!
